Last spring, we bought four baby chicks from our local feed and seed store. I wanted my girls to experience the excitement of hunting for eggs and gain a new hobby that would teach them more about the outdoors.
Before getting our chicks, we did a lot of research on the best chicken coop for our small flock. After all that research, I decided three things were most important to me:
- Size – I wanted a coop large enough to house the girls comfortably without needing to free-range constantly.
- Durable – I needed something sturdy & durable to protect against all predators also living in our backyard.
- Low Maintenance – Something easy to clean and easy to access eggs.
I was willing to spend a little more on something that would last me for years. I also wanted to be able to stand up inside the coop with the chickens. All my research led us to purchase this Producers Pride Guardian Chicken coop online from Tractor Supply and I couldn’t be happier!
Here are THREE other options we also considered if you’re looking to spend a little less on your coop:
- This Smaller Mobile Coop which would have allowed up to move the chickens around the yard if we wanted to do less free range
- This One for a flock of two chickens
- This option with a chicken run build underneath.
Stay tuned for more posts about chicken feeders and water options we found work best!
